Weight Loss
Permanent weight loss can be very difficult. For some people, even with exercise
and a healthy diet, losing weight seems impossible. Often, the culprit is
a damaged metabolism. Let Dr. Ridley be your personal guide to repair your
metabolism and experience natural, healthy weight loss.
More than half of all American adults are overweight and at an increased risk
for developing serious complications, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes,
stroke, and more -- diseases responsible for approximately 300,000 deaths a
year. All of which are preventable. Below are some of the avenues we will
explore to help you lose weight and repair you metabolism.
Detoxification and Weight Loss
Toxins bind to our cells, causing them to malfunction, or destroying
them altogether. The result is inflammation that can lead to changes in appetite
and the inability to burn fat. Dr. Ridley will assess your level of toxicity
and help tailor an appropriate weight loss plan for you. If your fat cells
are toxic, rapid weight loss can release those toxins into your blood stream
at high levels, which is one reason why people might not feel sick once they
begin to lose weight. Dr. Ridley will help you remove these toxins safely
and avoid getting poisoned by your own stored toxins during fat loss.
Food Allergies/Sensitivities and Weight Loss
Some people are born with food allergies and some people develop them
later in life. The reactions caused by food allergies create stress in the body. Some
severe reactions can occur within minutes. Other milder reactions can
take days. Either type of reaction causes a large amount of inflammation
throughout the body which affects insulin sensitivity and creates many other
problems that can lead to weight gain. The increase in stress is another cause
of weight gain and difficulty in losing weight. And some allergies, such as
gluten, can lead to even more serious health problems.
Insulin Resistance and Weight Loss
Insulin is a hormone released in response to blood sugar which greatly
impacts weight gain and weight loss. It forces your cells to use sugar from
the blood for energy. If your cells become resistant to insulin, sugar
will not get used for energy and will instead be stored as fat. If too
much sugar builds up in the blood, diabetes can result, causing severe damage
to the body. Restoring insulin sensitivity is a great way to reduce body fat,
and it is also the best anti-aging step you can take.
Adrenal Fatigue and Weight Loss
Stress will make the body release high amounts of cortisol, which can inhibit healing and may cause poor digestion, preventing the body from absorbing nutrients from food. Over time, high cortisol levels lead to fat gain around the belly, and eventually to adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue causes cortisol levels to drop, which causes bloating, fatigue, sleep disturbances, salt cravings and continued weight gain. Low cortisol can also disrupt the normal action of the thyroid hormone. If you have adrenal fatigue, losing weight will be virtually impossible unless the adrenals are repaired.
Thankfully, adrenal fatigue is easy to diagnose and treat. At LiveWell, we will do lab testing to determine your level of adrenal function. Quite often, symptoms such as fatigue and low body temperature are due to an adrenal gland that is functioning too low or too high. Improving your adrenal rhythm can create a measurable and noticeable benefit to your ability to lose weight, energy level, bone health, immune system, sleep, skin quality, and muscle and joint function.
Thyroid Function and Weight Loss
Thyroid hormone regulates the metabolism of every cell in your body. A
poorly functioning
thyroid gland is unfortunately very common in our society, as is poorly functioning
thyroid hormone. If the thyroid system is not working as well as it could
be, you might experience symptoms such as weight gain, fatigue, weakness, cold
hands or feet, constipation, or brittle hair. Through blood testing, Dr. Ridley
will properly identify the cause of your thyroid dysfunction which will allow
her to focus treatment on the cause of the disorder, which can often be reversed.
Estrogen (and other Hormone) Imbalances and Weight Loss
Both men and women with excessive fat stores tend to have excess estrogen,
since fat cells store and release estrogen (as well as cortisol and inflammatory
agents). In fact, body fat is now considered an endocrine organ. Excess
estrogen stresses the adrenal glands and binds up thyroid hormone, making weight
loss very difficult. Excess estrogen is also closely linked to many types
of cancer including breast cancer and prostate cancer. It is very important
for both men and women to have estrogen, thyroid, and adrenals monitored and
possibly treated to reduce risk of cancer and all of the obesity related diseases.
There are natural substances that are very effective at aiding estrogen metabolism
and proper detoxification and elimination of estrogen by-products.
Mercury Toxicity and Weight Loss
If you have ever had silver dental fillings in your teeth, you are
probably mercury toxic. There is actually more mercury than silver in
those ugly black fillings. Mercury poisoning can cause overgrowth of
parasites and yeast that can cause you to have sugar cravings, ultimately leading
to weight gain. Other conditions made worse by mercury include dementia,
anxiety, depression, hypertension, heart disease, and cancer. Once mercury
is in the body it is very difficult to eliminate, and therefore mercury must
be carefully removed by an experienced professional. Once the mercury
is eliminated from the body, the yeasts, parasites and other bugs often to
go away along with the sugar cravings. Weight loss is then much easier
to achieve.
Sleep Disturbances and Weight Loss
A healthy body constantly repairs itself, and sleep is when most of
the repair occurs. During deep sleep, growth hormone levels increase. Muscles
need growth hormone in order to repair after exercise, and when you have more
muscle mass, you’re burning more calories and fat. Leptin, another hormone produced
during deep sleep, is what tells the brain you’re full after eating a meal. So
if you do not sleep properly, it is more likely that you have increased food
cravings due to low leptin levels. Dr. Ridley will assess the quality of your
sleep with an at-home sleep study unit, so you can sleep in the privacy your
own bed during the sleep study!
Serotonin/Dopamine Imbalances and Weight Loss
Neurotransmitters such as serotonin send signals to your brain to regulate
hunger. Low levels of serotonin are very common in our society, and can
lead to depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, increased pain, and sugar cravings. Normal
serotonin levels can easily be achieved with natural therapies.
Digestion and Weight Loss
Your body contains trillions of bacteria that line the intestines. Some
of these bacteria are very
beneficial for the body, helping you break down food into nutrients. Others
cause serious illnesses, nutrient absorption problems, and general inflammation. Dr.
Ridley provides the proper care to help your body balance the intestinal bacteria,
which will improve your digestion and overall health, and help you lose weight.
HCG Diet
It is possible to lose 30 pounds in 30 days with the HCG weight loss plan. HCG is a hormone that occurs naturally in the body and is produced in larger amounts in a woman’s body during pregnancy. HCG assists the body to protect lean muscle mass and causes the body to consume fat for energy.
Our program is based on Dr. ___ Simeon’s protocol, “Pounds and Inches.” Combined with a strict diet and medical supervision, Dr. Ridley has seen enormous success in her patients who are typically unable to lose weight doing strenuous exercise and who have tried numerous other diets.
LiveWell offers HCG by sublingual drops, not injections. Our patients feel more energetic and healthy with the HCG weight loss diet plan than they have in years! It is safe for both men and women.
