Genetic Testing for a Healthier Lifestyle

DNA holds the blueprint to how your body responds to the world around you. Because each person is totally unique due to their unique genetic makeup, the traditional “one size fits all” approach does not work. Using genetic testing we can uncover your personal path to a healthier lifestyle.

Genetic Testing Fort Worth

Knowledge is power and nothing knows you better than your DNA. Our genes reveal why two people can eat the exact same foods and experience differences with weight loss.

By analyzing your genetic markers you can find the diet that’s right for you. By analyzing your genetic markers we can find risk factors to your health so we can be proactive about prevention.

Lose up to 3x more weight on a diet based on what your DNA tells us. A recent study showed that people who ate a genetically appropriate diet experienced 287% more weight loss over 12 months than a control group.

Deciding between Mediterranean or low-carb diet? The research shows while they both might be good, only one works best for you!

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ridley at LiveWell Chiropractic and Wellness Center and find out if you are a candidate for treatment for Genetic Testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Genetic FAQ

Q: What is genetic testing and why should you consider it?

A: Genetic testing uses laboratory methods to look at your genes, which are the DNA instructions you inherit from your mother and your father. Genetic tests may be used to identify increased risks of health problems, to choose treatments, or to assess responses to different types of diet, exercise and nutrients. This testing can help us to identify gene changes that may increase your risk for developing a disease so that we can be proactive about lifestyle changes geared at prevention.

Q: What can I learn from testing?

A: Genetic test results can be hard to understand, however, Dr. Ridley will help explain what results might mean to you and your family. Because genetic testing tells you information about your DNA, which is shared with other family members, sometimes a genetic test result may have implications for blood relatives of the person who had testing. We use genetic testing to help you:
•  choose the best diet and exercise plan for your unique genetic makeup
•  select nutrients to assist with your unique and specific weight loss needs
• identify gene variations that might place you at higher risk for premature aging, brain fog, immune system issues, cardiovascular issues, mood disorders, bone health issues, low energy, poor sleep, blood sugar issues and problems with weight regulation.

Q: Should I be afraid of this testing?

A: Genetic testing is nothing to be afraid of if you believe, as we do, that knowledge is power! At LiveWell, we are not testing for any diseases that are genetically inevitable. We are testing for mutations that can signal the presence of problems that we can help mitigate. Just because a person has a particular mutation DOES NOT mean that the person will develop an associated problem, because we now have the ability to recommend changes in environment and lifestyle based on this information. This is why two people might have the same genetic mutation but be affected completely differently.

Q: Will genetic testing affect my insurance coverage?

A: In 2008, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was put in place to protect individuals who undergo genetic testing, from discrimination by insurance companies and employers. The act applies to health insurance, but does not apply to life, disability, or long-term care insurance. Although this act protects most individuals, those who work for small companies as well as military personnel may not be protected. Please visit www.genome.gov/10002328 for more information.

Q: Am I required to notify anyone about my genetic testing results?

A: No, your genetic report is your own personal information. You are not required by law to notify or share this information with anyone. You may find it beneficial to share this information with your doctor or with other family members, but this decision is completely up to you.

Q: How can genetic testing help me with my weight issues?

A: The genetic report we give you provides you with data that may help you lose weight or maintain weight loss. Based on your DNA it will tell you the kind of diet that is best for you and the type of exercise that is most beneficial to help you with weight loss and disease prevention. With actionable recommendations included with your results, you will have a foundation for change.

Q: How can genetic testing help me plan my diet?

A: The genetic test recommends a diet type that is based on your genetic makeup. In addition to the report, there are complementary diet plans specifically dependent on a patient’s genetic profile to assist in weight management. The diet plans were written by registered dietitians.
